Teen Patti game — how to play guide

Teen Patti Rules

  • Played by 3–6 players with a 52-card deck. Your goal is to hold the best three-card hand at show, or to be the last player left after everyone else folds.
  • Before the deal, every player puts an equal “boot” (ante) into the pot. Each player is then dealt three cards face down.
  • Hand rankings, highest to lowest: Trail/Trio (three of a kind) > Pure Sequence (straight flush) > Sequence (straight) > Color (flush) > Pair > High Card.
  • You can play “blind” (without looking at your cards) or “seen” (after looking). A seen player must stake at least double a blind player’s bet.

How to Play Teen Patti Step by Step

  1. Place the boot. Every player contributes the agreed ante so there is money in the pot to play for.
  2. Receive three cards. Decide immediately whether you will play blind (cards untouched) or look and play seen.
  3. Bet or fold in turn. Each round you call (chaal) or raise. Blind players bet 1×–2× the stake; seen players bet 2×–4×.
  4. Use a side show or show. When two players remain, either may pay for a “show” to compare hands; a seen player can also request a side show with the previous player.
  5. Win the pot. Take the pot by holding the best hand at show, or by being the last player remaining after the others fold.

Betting & Odds

A pair turns up in roughly one hand in six, while a trail appears only about once in 425 hands. Because high cards and pairs decide most pots, smart bet-sizing matters far more than waiting for a rare monster hand.

Tips & Winning Strategy

  • Play more hands blind when stakes are low — blind bets are cheaper and hide your strength.
  • Watch bet-sizing: a sudden big raise from a seen player usually means a sequence or better.
  • Use the side show to force weak hands out without revealing your cards to the table.
  • Set a session loss limit before you start and walk away when you hit it.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Chasing every pot to a show instead of folding weak high-card hands.
  • Only betting big when you have a strong hand — it makes you predictable.
  • Ignoring position; acting later in the round gives you more information.

Teen Patti FAQ

Is Teen Patti a game of skill or luck?
Both. The deal is random, but betting, bluffing and knowing when to fold make it a recognised game of skill.
What is the highest hand in Teen Patti?
A Trail (three of a kind), followed by a Pure Sequence, then Sequence, Color, Pair and High Card.
What is the difference between blind and seen play?
Blind players bet without looking at their cards and stake less; seen players have looked and must bet at least double the current blind stake.
